The film starts off with a bunch of teenage girls partying in the woods with the minister’s ( Reverend Samuel Parris) Barbadian slave Tituba. The Crucible takes place in Salem, MA in 1692. Miller used real historical figures as the basis for the characters in his play. This play is about the Salem Witch Trials, but is in actuality written to speak out against the Anti-Communist feelings, McCarthyism, the HUAC, blacklisting actors, etc. The play The Crucible by Arthur Miller is one amazing work, and the film version really did it justice.
